It is the most common form of childhood vascular inflammation (vasculitis) and results in inflammatory changes in the small blood vessels. WebPurpura occurs when red blood cells leak from the blood vessels into the skin, creating a discolored area on the skin that is larger than 3 millimeters (about 0.04 inches). In contrast to other bruises or allergic reactions, purpura does not blanch (i.e., turn white) with pressure, nor is it tender or itchy.
