WebREDCap: Smart Variables An introduction to Smart Variables In REDCap Field Notation, variable names always point to data fields in the project. However, another type of entity exists called 'Smart Variables' that allow you to reference information other than data fields. WebREDCap will create a yes/no column in the dataset for each value that can be checked. Use pre-defined data type (text field with validation), i.e. yes/no, true/false, number, integer, date, datetime, time, zip code, email, phone. Define range minimum / maximum to allow REDCap to perform basic data validation / quality control.
