Canine cryptorchidism is heritable and transmitted as a sex-limited autosomal recessive trait. Cryptorchidism is presumed to be heritable in cats and a polygenic mode of inheritance has been suggested. WebCryptorchidism is much less common in cats than in dogs. The testes develop near the kidneys within the abdomen and normally descend into the scrotum by two months of age. This may occur later in some cats, but rarely after six months of age.
